Almeria Cathedral was built in 1524 at a time when Berber pirates often raided the city. With its many towers that once contained cannons, the buildng looks like a fortress. The cathedral is a mixture of styles and its Renaissance facade is the work of Juan de Orea. On the eastern end of the building is a 16th Century carved sun. Among the features of interest are the chapels, walnut choir stalls and pulpits of marble and jasper.
