The Arc de Triomf was built as the grand entrance to the 1888 Universal Exposition in the Parc de la Ciutedella. Instead of using a classical design, architect Josep Vilaseca built the arch of brick in the Mudejar style, with sculptures depicting crafts and industry. On the main facade is a frieze by Josep Reynes representing the city`s welcome to foreign visitors.
