The Arco de Santa Maria is a 14th Century gateway that once defended the city walls. In the 16th Century it was castellated and embellished with statues to form a triumphal arch for Carlos V. The statues include judges of Castilla and El Cid. Inside is the Sala de Poridad which has a Mudejar cupola. The gate fronts the River Arlanzon and across the plaza is the cathedral.
