The Roman town of Baelo Claudio was established because of its close proximity to Africa and the town produced salted fish and garum (a fish sauce). The site is in a lovely position above the sea. It can be visited and it is possible to distinguish streets, the forum, temples and shops. The town`s baths were supplied by three aqueducts. Founded in the 1st Century AD, Baelo Claudio was abandoned about five hundred years later.
