Barcelona`s zoo occupies the south eastern end of the Parc de la Ciutadella and is the most popular atraction in the park. The zoo was laid out in the 1940s and the enclosures are separated by moats instead of bars. It was once famous for being the home of Snowflake, an albino gorilla that had been orphaned by poachers in Africa. There are around 7000 animals of more than 400 species. Near the entrance is the sculpture The Lady with the Umbrella by Roig i Soler.
