The Basilica of Santa Maria is built like a cathedral in dimensions and structure but it has never received this status. This huge building is a fine example of Gothic religious architecture and it took from the 13th to the 15th Century to complete. It has a magnificent portal and inside is an unusual baptismal font with one section for children and the other for adults. There is also a splendid 15th Century alabaster altarpiece.
