The beach at Cala Mesquida consists of dark sand protected by cliffs. On one of the headlands stands a watchtower built to defend Menorca. Duc de Crillon landed here in 1781 with an invasion force. During the 18th Century, the British occupied the island several times. Cala Mesquida became a beach resort in the 19th Century and it is popular with local people who visit at the weekends. There is a good seafood restaurant.
