Begur Castle dates from the 11th Century but it was severely damaged twice by the French then later rebuilt. In 1810 the fortress was destroyed by Spanish troops to obstruct the advance of Napoleon`s army. It is worth climbing to the ruins for the spectacular views of the coast. Below the castle stands a small chapel at another viewpoint of the sea. The original building was destroyed during the Civi War and rebuilt in 1951.
