Benissa is a small, historic town that was built inland on the side of a hill to escape pirate raids. There are many lovely, old mansions built in the Moorish style lining the atractive streets. In the main square, with its palm trees and foutains, stands the church known as La Catedral de la Marina. Other interesting buildings include a Franciscan convent.
