The charming, little town of Biar was once called Apiariun by the Romas because of its beehives and honey. It is now dominated by a castle that was built by the Moors. Steep, narrow, cobbled streets lead up to the fortress with its magnifcent Moorish tower. The town guarded the Castilian border but it was later taken by Aragon. From the castle are fine views of the town, including the 15th Century Gothic parish church.
