Cala Alcaufar is an attractive cove with a sheltered, sandy beach and fishermen`s cottages and boats. A visit to this small creek is a popular day out for local people. A short walk along the limestone clifs leads to a headland with a martello tower. Cala Alcaufar is where the British are said to have first landed in 1708. They captured the island and held it for almost fifty years. It was lost to the French in 1756 at the Battle of Menorca.
