Candeleda is a village sitting below the Sierra de Gredos on the route to the Valle de Vera, and it is a fine base for walking in the area. Below in the valley birds such as bee-eaters and golden orioles may be spotted. Trails head up towards mountain lakes and the highest peak Almanzar, whilst from nearby villages other walks cross the range. Look out for mountain goats.
