Capileira is a village beside the Barranco de Poqueira Gorge in the Las Alpujarras of the Sierra Nevada. Situated at 4000 feet above sea level, Capileira is superb base for walks, especially in the Poqueira Gorge. Walks range from a couple of miles to all day and there are walks to other villages as well as on the high sierra. In the village there is also a museum dedicated to the writer Pedro de Alarcon.
