Carratraca is famous for its sulphurous waters which were used by the Romans. Later in the 19th Century the place developed into a spa. After a mansion was built here for King Fernando V11 many famous people, including Alexandre Dumas, came to take the waters, which were recommended for skin complaints. The waters have a constant temperature of about 16 degrees Centigrade.
