The Archaeological Museum stands on the site of the Roman necropolis of San Anton. Cartagena was founded by the Carthaginians and then it was conquered by the Romans in 209 BC and they renamed the city New Carthage. In this museum, which opened in the 1980s, you can discover the city`s ancient history. The museum contains an excellent collection of inscriptions as well as a display of Roman artefacts.
