Casares is an attractive, white town situated on the side of a hill topped with the ruins of a 13th Century Moorish fortress. The castle stands on the site of an earlier Roman fort and it was built in the era of Ibri ad Jitib. The castle saw action during the Peninsular War whilst fighting the French. From here are great views of the coast and even as far as Africa on a clear day.
