Casares is said to have been named after Julius Caesar as it is claimed he was cured of liver complaints by nearby sulpher springs. From near the castle are wonderful views and on the way you will pass the 17th Century Iglesia de San Sebastian. Near the castle is the Iglesia de la Encarnacion with its Mudejar tower. Blas Infante who was a leader of the Andalucian Nationalist movement was born in Casares.
