Castellar de la Frontera is a remarkable village enclosed within the walls of a 13th Century castle. The inhabitants of the village were moved in 1971 to the new town of Nueva Castellar whilst the old village was repopulated by artists and hippies. It is an atmospheric place with cobbled streets and white washed houses. There are a number of art and craft shops. From the castle battlements are magnificent views extending as far as Gibraltar and north Africa.
