Castell d` Alaro was a Moorish stronghold until it was taken by siege in 1285. Alfonso 111 of Aragon had the defenders, Cabrit and Brassa, burnt alive on a spit. The present castle, now in ruins, dates from the 15th Century and stands 800 metres above sea level. The walk to it from Alaro takes about two hours. From the summit are magnificent views and there is a small chapel as well as a restaurant and bar.
