The Castle of St John of the Eagles stands on a cliff high above the fishing port of Aguilas. The defensive castle was built in 1595 on a site previously held by the Romans and the Moors. It is now in ruins but it is worth climbing the footpath to the site for the panoramic views of the port with its fishing boats and daily market.
