Castro Urdiales is a pleasant resort and its main beach Playa del Brazomar is popular at summer weekends. There is also a long promenade and above the picturesque, fishing harbour stands a Gothic church and a restored castle which has been converted into a lighthouse. Around the headland is a rock pool and the quieter beach of Playa de Ostend with its dark sand.
