The hills north of Alicante are known for their caves and grottoes and the Cave of Canalobre at over 2000 feet on Mount Cabeza de Oro is one of the most impressive in Spain. The limestone cavern has many stalactites, stalagmites and peculiar limestone formations. One shaped oddly like a candelabra gave the cavern its name. The caves have been illuminated and concerts are sometimes held there in the summer months.
