Chipiona Lighthouse is the tallest in Spain and it is claimed to be the third tallest in thw world. Situated at the mouth of the River Guadalquiver, it was built between 1863 and 1867 to warn ships away from a large dangerous rock. The lighthouse is 68 metres high and there are 344 steps to climb to reach the top. It is open to visitors and those who climb all the steps will be rewarded with magnificent views stretching for over twenty miles on clear days.
