The Church of San Sebastian in Aguimes is a splendid example of neo-classical architecture in the Canary Islands. Reminiscent of a cathedral, this grand building was designed by Diego Nicloas Eduardo. Although consecrated in 1808, the church was not finished until the mid 20th Century. Around it is a maze of cobbled streets with traditional buildings. The town of Aguimes was founded in the late 15th Century but it was occupied by the Guanche people before the arrival of the Spanish invaders.
