The Church of Sants Just i Pastor is thought to be one of the oldest churches in Barcelona. It is said to have been founded in 801 AD by Charlemagne`s son Louis the Pious. The present Gothic church dates from the 14th Century and has a broad single nave. Between the 11th and the 15th centuries, cases that could not be settled in court were brought to this church where the parties fought in a Trial by God. It was believed that God would not let the guilty win.
