Competa is a beautiful village situated on a ridge at 700 metres above sea level. There are winding streets and low, whitewashed houses and on the main square is the Baroque Iglesia de las Asuncion with its three naves and impressive bell tower. Surrounded by vineyards, Competa is also a good centre for walking in the Natural Park de las Sierra Almijara y Tejeda. Walking is good all year round except in July and August when it is very hot.
