The Convent of San Buenaventura now stands in ruins after being closed in the 1930s. The Franciscan convent was built in 1414, a few years after the island was conquered by Jean de Bethancourt. It is the oldest abbey on the island. Near the ruins is a rock where, according to legend, the Devil was chained whilst being forced to carry stones for the building. Treasury from the convent can be seen in the town`s Museum of Sacred Art.
