The Convent of Santa Teresa was built in the 17th Century on the site of the house where the saint was born in 1515. A mystic, she became a nun and, after a number of visions, she decided to reform the Carmelites and founded the first Convent of the Carmelitas Descalzas (Shoeless Carmelites) in 1567. The spot where she was born is now a chapel, and a small museum contains various objects from her life, including one of her fingers.
