The Cordoba Gate is one of four gates that gave entrance to the City of Carmona in Roman times. Only this gate and the Seville Gate survive. Cordoba Gate was built about the 1st Century AD on the north-east side of Carmona, in the direction of Cordoba. Originally there were three openings, flanked by towers. Since then the two small pedestrian openings have been closed, and the gate was rebuilt in the late 18th Century by architect Jose de Echamorro.
