The castle at Cuevas del Almanzora was built in the Baroque style during the 16th Century by the Marques de Velez. In the following century it was enlarged. Features include a keep with battlements and turrets and a two storey mansion. The palace was connected to a medieval tower by a drawbridge. There is an art museum with paintings and sculptures. Near the castle is an archaeological museum with local prehistoric finds.
