The Cuevas del Castillo are prehistoric caves which were home to Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon man. Tools and weapons have been discovered here. There are stalactites and stalagmites in strange shapes. Deep inside the caves are paintings of bison, deer and the outlines of hands, most of which are of the left hand. They predate the art found at the Altamira Cave. It is usually advisable to book tours in advance.
