El Charco de San Gines is now set back from the sea but this salt water lake was the heart of the city in the 17th Century. The little lagoon is surrounded by a promenade and pretty fishermen`s cottages. Cesar Manrique designed the bridge across it and the walk around the lagoon makes a pleasant walk. Beyond the Church of San Gines is another attractive promenade with benches and trees.
