Born in Barcelona in 1893, Joan Miro was a Catalan artist who developed a Surrealistic style. He attended La Llotja art school in Barcelona and spent much time in Paris. After 1940, he lived in Mallorca. The Miro Foundation was set up in 1971, and Joan Miro donated many of his works. The gallery is a modern building, lit by natural light, housing hundreds of Miro`s paintings, as well as sculptures and tapestries. On display is the Barcelona Series, consisting of black and white lithographs. There are also regular exhibitions of other artists` work.
