Hoyos is a beautiful village in the Sierra de Gata, a region of wooded valleys and hills which long ago was controlled by the Moors then by the Knights Templar. The village became the summer residence of bishops and there are many fine mansions to indicate its historical importance. Standing beside attractive squares is the Church of Nuestra Senora del Buen Varon which dates from the 16th Century.
