Thronged with people day and night, the historic avenue La Rambla can claim to be Spain`s most famous street. In times past it was a sandy gully containing a seasonal stream that ran parallel to the medieval city wall. Consisting of five sections between Port Vell and Place de Catalunya, it is now a magnificent tree lined boulevard lined with cafes and restaurants. La Rambla has many fine, historic buildings, street vendors, entertainers and a colourful food market.
