Antoni Gaudi started work on the Expiatori Temple of the Holy Family in the 1880s and it became his life`s work. His vision was for this unconventional church to be the greatest in Europe. Only one tower had been completed on his death in 1926, but more have been added since the end of the Civil War. The towers and upper galleries can be reached by narrow spiral stairs and a lift. The church is crammed with symbolic features, and one of the highlights is the Nativity Facade, completed during Gaudi`s lifetime. He is buried in the crypt.
