The Salt Museum overlooks the only remaining saltpan on Fuerteventura Island. In the past, fishing was very important on the island and the fish were preserved by salt before being exported to markets in Europe and South America. The museum is devoted to explaining the history, extraction and uses of salt. Visitors also have the opportunity to walk along the saltpan wall to discover how the right amount of seawater is allowed to enter for the purpose of evaporation.
