The Mercado Central in Alicante is a large, old Modernista building where daily food markets are held. There is an enormous range of fresh produce such as fruit, vegetables, dairy products, fish and meat - an ideal place to visit if you wish to buy food for a picnic. Behind it is a square where flowers are sold and there are several cafes. Do not forget to try Alicante`s nougat, known as turron.
