The Mercat de Sant Josep is the best place to buy fresh produce in Barcelona. There has been a market in the vicinity for centuries, and since the mid 19th Century it has been located in a covered square on the grounds of the former Convent of the Carmelites of Sant Josep. It is a colourful, crowded, noisy market with rows of stalls selling all manner of goods. Here you can buy fruit, vegetables, cheese, sweets, meat and bread. There are also a few tapis bars.
