The Miqve in Besalu is a Jewish Bathhouse of Purification that was discovered in 1964. It is the first such bathhouse to be found in Spain, and only two others are known in Europe. A Jewish community lived in Besalu from the 9th to the 15th Century and the Miqve, which is located near the old bridge over the river, is thought to have been next to the documented Synagogue. In the building is a room with a barrel vaulted roof, steps and a pool.
