The Monastery of San Xoan de Caaveira stands in ruins on a hill with panoramic views over the beautiful Natural Park of Fragas do Eume. It was founded by the young Bishop San Eume in the 10th Century and it is said to be the oldest in Galacia. The monastery is on the route of a fine long distance walk between Betanzos and Cabo Ortegal.
