The Monastery of la Encarnacion is where Santa Teresa lived as a nun for over twenty years. She reformed the Carmelite movement and founded convents all over Spain. At the monastery, you can see the rooms where Santa Teresa lived and objects that were around her. There is also a museum with information about the saint`s life and a map showing the convents she founded. She died in 1582 in Alba de Tormes near Salamanca. Santa Teresa is said to have founded the making of the local sweet pastry called Yema.
