The Monastery of Miramar was founded in 1276 by King Jaime 11 for Ramon Llull and it was to be a missionary school where monks were taught oriental languages before embarking on missions to Asia and north Africa. Ramon Llull also lived here, writing books. The property was acquired in 1872 by Archduke Ludwig Salvator who also owned Son Marroig a short distance along the same coast. The monastery now houses a museum displaying exhibits such as old maps. You can also visit the gardens.
