The Benedictine Monastery of Sant Esteve in Banyoles was first built in the early 9th Century on the site of an earlier church. It was destroyed several times and in the 11th Century a Romanesque church was built. An earthquake caused more damage and much of the present church is from the 18th Century. There is much of interest inside the church including a 15th Century chest, altarpieces and a 14th Century alabaster Virgin.
