The Municipal Museum of Ciutadella is housed in a 17th Century fortress that has had many uses, and it opened as the city museum in the 1990s. The collection of exhibits from archaeological sites on the island date from prehistoric times. In a long gallery is a large collection of artefacts including bone knives, spears, bowls, beakers, Roman coins and jewellery. There is a display of Iron Age skulls that have wounds and fractures.
