The Museo das Marinas explores the history of Betanzos and the surrounding area. The town was once a Celtic settlement and it became a port in Roman times. In the 17th and 18th centuries the port silted up and the town now lies inland near the confluence of the River Mendo with the River Mandeo. The museum also has pieces of medieval sculpture and an interesting collection of traditional costumes.
