The Picasso Museum is one of Barcelona`s most popular museums, and of special interest are the artist`s early works, painted in his mid teens. The collection contains sketches and paintings created in Barcelona, Madrid and Malaga in the 1890s. Most well known of his works here are the Las Meninas series from the 1950s that were inspired by the Diego Velazquez masterpiece of the same name. The museum opened in 1963 with works donated by Picasso`s friend Jaime Sabartes.
