Originally founded by the Romans, Astorga was on the Roman Road Via de la Plata which linked Andalusia with north-west Spain. The museum is on the site of the Roman forum, and exhibits include finds from archaeologicl excavations in the town. There are other Roman remains in Astorga including town walls, baths and sewers. During the summer months there are guided tours, or you can obtain and follow a map.
