The Museu del Jambon is an exhibition about Arecena and the town`s surroundings. Much of the information is about the area`s pigs which feed in the open woods and pasture, eating the acorns of the holm oak. Traditionally, the pigs were slaughtered at the age of 18 months by the villagers. Houses in the past were built with a basement for hanging the sea salt cured hams, and those from this area were considered some of the finest in Spain.
