The Parque Natural de Monfrague is an area of scrubland, pasture, rivers and woods. The area became a natural park after dams were built in the 1960s on the rivers Tajo and Tietar to form reservoirs. Amongst the mammals that live here are wild boar, deer and lynx. There are many species of birds including the black stork, black vulture, eagles and eagle owl.
